What is Recreational Gymnastics?

Recreational gymnastics focuses on the mastery of specific, introductory skills and movements that help to develop a broader base of abilities including balance, spatial awareness, agility, physical strength, and flexibility. Side-effects to exploring and developing these abilities include greater self-confidence, greater physical fitness, improved coordination, and an appreciation for physical activity. Whether an athlete chooses to pursue competitive gymnastics or not, he or she will greatly benefit from the recreational gymnastics experience. Our goal is to teach gymnastics in such a way that every child has fun, grows, and learns life-skills that help to create future success, both in the gym and beyond.

Class Structure

Boys and girls alike progress at their own pace through a wide range of skill levels. All recreational gymnasts will learn basic tumbling skills, work to improve basic conditioning and flexibility, and become familiar with a variety of apparatus, including the vault, balance beams, resi-pits, and our above-ground and in-ground trampolines. Weekly workouts will provide varied and rewarding challenges every session, and our total fitness plan emphasizes flexibility, strength, balance, and coordination through successive skill accomplishments. In addition, gymnasts will spend time learning each of the competitive gymnastics events: Vault, Uneven Bars, Balance Beam, and Floor Exercise for girls; Floor Exercise, Pommel Horse, Still Rings, Vault, Parallel Bars, and Horizontal Bar for boys.
